As many people age or experience significant transformations of their bodies, cosmetic surgery is often chosen to improve physical appearance and self-esteem. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 18 million people underwent surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures in the United States in the last few years, and that number continues to rise.

In years past, those seeking cosmetic surgery options had to travel hundreds of miles to a qualified surgeon. However, that is no longer the case. Dimitrios Danikas, MD, FACS, is a Pikeville Medical Center Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon. Dr. Danikas has a special interest in body contouring after massive weight loss, Botox & fillers, breast augmentation & reduction, breast reconstruction, endoscopic brow lifts, face lifts, liposuction, rhinoplasties, Brazilian Butt Lifts and tummy tucks.

“I work closely with each patient to determine a specific objective and come up with the best course of action to achieve the look they desire,” explained Dr. Danikas. “Patients who are choosing a provider for plastic or reconstructive surgery should seek a provider with a high volume of patients, experience and skill.”

Dr. Danikas is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons®, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

“It is common for people to feel the desire to improve their appearances,” explained Dr. Danikas. “Whatever the need, we would love the opportunity to discuss their options.”

When many people think of plastic surgery, their minds automatically see images of face lifts, tummy tucks or a variety of other cosmetic options. However, Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dimitrios Danikas, MD, FACS also spends time with women who are battling breast cancer to plan and perform reconstructive surgery.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States, and has affected the lives of thousands of women in Eastern Kentucky. Patients who have surgery as part of their breast cancer treatment may choose breast reconstruction surgery to rebuild the breast’s shape and look, a procedure offered at PMC.

“The growing number of women faced with a breast cancer diagnosis in our region strengthened the decision to provide a reconstructive surgery option for our patients during their breast cancer journey,” explained PMC Hematologist/Oncologist Christopher Croot, MD. “We offer our patients advanced services to detect and treat breast cancer. However, PMC offers reconstructive surgery of the breast to give them back much of what cancer has taken away.”

For qualifying patients, breast reconstruction is a surgical process of rebuilding the breast’s shape and look which involves using tissue, prosthetic implants or a combination of both to reconstruct a natural-looking breast. Dr. Dimitrios Danikas specializes in breast reconstruction surgery, and performs this surgery on a regular basis at Pikeville Medical Center.

For patients facing a mastectomy, PMC’s multidisciplinary team assembled to fight cancer is here to help. PMC provides the region’s most advanced reconstructive breast surgery services, combining the latest in breast cancer care with sophisticated plastic surgery techniques to preserve and restore shape, form, beauty and function.
