iAbout Specialty Pharmacy
What is a specialty pharmacy?
A specialty pharmacy focuses on medications that are often complex, costly or used to treat chronic and uncommon conditions.
- Some medications require special handling, storage or administration.
- Patients may need additional education, monitoring and follow-up.
- Our team works with prescribers and insurance companies to help patients access prescribed therapy whenever possible.
- We can also review whether financial-assistance programs may help reduce medication costs.
Why might I need to use a specialty pharmacy?
- Your medication may not be stocked by a traditional retail pharmacy.
- It may require refrigeration, special packaging or another form of careful handling.
- It may be taken or administered differently from common prescriptions.
- Its effects and potential side effects may require closer monitoring.
PMC Specialty Pharmacy provides pharmacy service, education and ongoing clinical support to patients and caregivers.

RxPrescriptions & Refills

Refills can be requested by calling 1-888-PMCKYRX during regular business hours or by using RxLocal online ↗.
Before a refill, a team member may contact you to confirm your address, medication supply, delivery or pickup arrangements, and any changes in your health or therapy.

Will PMC Specialty Pharmacy substitute another medication?
A brand-name or generic substitution may sometimes be required by an insurance plan or used to help reduce your copay.
If a substitution is being considered, a team member will discuss it with you and answer your questions. Any change must be handled according to the prescription and applicable pharmacy requirements.
$Insurance & Medication Cost
Will my insurance allow PMC Specialty Pharmacy to dispense my medication?
PMC Specialty Pharmacy participates with many insurance plans. Coverage and pharmacy-network requirements vary by plan.
If your insurance requires another specialty pharmacy, our team will coordinate the prescription transfer and provide the receiving pharmacy’s contact information.
How much will my medication cost, and how will I know whether it is covered?
Our team will process the prescription with your insurance plan and notify you of the expected copay before dispensing.
Costs vary based on your insurance benefits, deductibles, the medication and any assistance program for which you qualify. We will coordinate with your prescriber and insurer to help keep your out-of-pocket cost as low as possible.
What happens if PMC Specialty Pharmacy is out of network?
If we cannot fill your prescription because of your insurance network, our team will coordinate its transfer to the pharmacy required by your plan.
What if my insurance does not cover my medication?
Our team will work with your prescriber and insurance company to seek coverage when appropriate. This may include submitting information required for prior authorization or an appeal.
If coverage is denied, your prescriber may discuss alternative treatment options with you.
Can I access medication after an insurance denial or if I do not have insurance?
Some manufacturers offer temporary supply, free-trial or patient-assistance programs. Availability and eligibility vary by medication and individual circumstances.
When a program is available, our team can help you understand the requirements and complete the enrollment process.
